Job summary

  • Maintain accurate research records and report progress to the principal investigator.
  • Train and assist students and junior researchers in lab methods.
  • Manage laboratory inventories and coordinate with vendors.

Position Information Classification Title Lab Tech-Medical Science I FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent Position Summary The Laboratory Technician I will support research activities in the Huet Laboratory within the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences. The laboratory investigates the organellar biology of apicomplexan parasites using molecular, cellular, genetic, and biochemical approaches. The incumbent will assist with daily laboratory operations, maintain cell culture systems, perform routine and specialized research procedures, prepare laboratory reagents and supplies, maintain accurate research records, provide guidance and support to junior researchers, and contribute to the overall success of ongoing research projects.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, and biochemical laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to perform PCR , RT- PCR , DNA gel electrophoresis, cloning, and DNA construct preparation.
  • Ability to perform biochemical assays, including SDS - PAGE and immunoblotting.
  • Knowledge of mammalian cell culture techniques and aseptic laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate laboratory records and experimental documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and troubleshoot routine laboratory issues.
  • Ability to manage laboratory inventories, order supplies, and coordinate with vendors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative research environment.
  • Ability to train and assist students and junior laboratory personnel.

Physical Demands

  • Work is primarily performed in a laboratory environment.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory instruments and perform precise experimental procedures.
  • May require working with biological materials, chemicals, and Biosafety Level 2 ( BSL -2) organisms while following established safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift and move laboratory supplies weighing up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
