Job summary

VERG Brooklyn is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Laboratory Technician to join our 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital. You’ll perform diagnostic testing, manage lab equipment, and deliver accurate, timely results to support veterinarians in urgent and routine cases.

With at least two years of lab experience in a veterinary setting, you’ll work with IDEXX and Abaxis analyzers, prepare samples, and enter results into EMR.

Qualifications

  • Two years of veterinary or medical laboratory experience, preferably in a referral or specialty hospital.
  • Experience with common laboratory techniques and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to produce accurate, dependable results and stay organized under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology, and microbiology testing.
  • Prepare, process, label, and store samples.
  • Enter results into electronic medical records and monitor QA standards.
  • Operate and maintain IDEXX and Abaxis analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Assist in training new team members when needed.

Veterinary Laboratory Technician

Compensation: $21 - $27 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

VERG Brooklyn is looking for an experienced Veterinary Laboratory Technician to join our team. You'll perform diagnostic testing, manage laboratory equipment, and deliver the accurate, timely results our medical teams rely on to make important treatment decisions.

What You’ll Do

As a Veterinary Laboratory Technician, you’ll process samples and complete diagnostic testing accurately and efficiently. You’ll help ensure urgent cases are prioritized and results are available when our medical teams need them.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis, cytology, and microbiology testing.
  • Preparing, processing, labeling, and storing samples.
  • Preparing and staining cytology slides and providing interpretation support.
  • Operating and maintaining equipment such as IDEXX and Abaxis analyzers, microscopes, and centrifuges.
  • Entering results accurately and promptly into electronic medical records.
  • Monitoring quality control standards.
  • Troubleshooting equipment and testing issues.
  • Communicating with medical teams to prioritize urgent samples.
  • Keeping the laboratory clean, organized, and well stocked.
  • Helping train new team members when needed.
What You Bring

You have at least two years of experience in a veterinary or medical laboratory setting, including experience in a referral or specialty hospital. You’re comfortable working with common laboratory techniques, veterinary analyzers, and diagnostic equipment.

You're someone who:

  • Takes pride in producing accurate, dependable results.
  • Notices the small details without losing sight of urgent priorities.
  • Stays organized while managing multiple tests and requests.
  • Communicates clearly and works well with others.

Because VERG Brooklyn cares for patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, scheduling flexibility is important. This position may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Available schedules will be discussed during the interview process.
