Job summary

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Technician 1-3 to join our team in Southeast Louisiana. The incumbent will perform a wide range of advanced diagnostic tests across hematology, chemistry, bacteriology, blood bank, urinalysis, parasitology and serology, with supervision as appropriate.

Requirements include two years of lab experience or completion of an accredited program, or an associate/bachelor’s in a related science, and appropriate state licensure where required.

Qualifications

  • Two years of general laboratory experience or completion of an accredited clinical laboratory program or an associated degree in medical/biological sciences.
  • Experience substitutions: six semester hours in sciences substitute for one year of experience.
  • State licensing as Laboratory Assistant or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician may be required by Louisiana law.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostic laboratory tests in Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Parasitology and Serology with minimal supervision.
  • Perform ABO, Rh and routine screenings and cytological procedures; assist pathology questions and CAP inspections as required for accreditation.
  • Perform phlebotomies on patients of all ages; train new personnel; maintain a clean, organized work area; stock and rotate supplies.

Job description

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is seeking aLaboratory Technician 1-3 to join our team! We are a 24-bed acute care critical access hospital serving the Florida Parishes region of Southeast Louisiana. We offer a wide range of services, including general surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. At Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, we are able to bring you a wide range of services close to home, provided by a network of board certified physicians. The incumbent will perform a wide variety of advanced level clinical diagnostic without direct supervision.

  • Two years of general laboratory experience; OR
  • Completion of an accredited clinical laboratory or medical laboratory technology program; OR
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in medical technology, nursing, clinical laboratory science, or a biological, physical, or chemical science; OR
  • Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician or Laboratory Animal Technologist by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science.
  • EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every six semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in any of the biological, physical, chemical, or agricultural sciences will substitute for one year of experience.
  • NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Positions in Human Testing Laboratory environments must be licensed to practice as either a Laboratory Assistant or a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Technician in the State of Louisiana as required by Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Personnel Law R.S. 37:1311-1329 and the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.

Job Duties
  • Performs advanced diagnostic laboratory tests in the following areas: Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Parasitology and Serology. Perform tests without direct supervision: Perform laboratory tests on patients of all ages. responsible for working all shifts.
  • Performs ABO, Rh and routine screenings, Performs all Cytological procedures. Preform gram stains on cultures. Performs fine needles aspirations for Histology; having knowledge of tissue preservation and respond to all other pathology questions in the absence of the Pathologist. Assist the Laboratory Information Specialist. Perform CAP inspections as required for Accreditation.
  • Performs phlebotomies to collect blood samples for testing, Perform phlebotomies on patients of all ages. Train subordinate and/or new personnel. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Stock and rotate supplies for laboratory.
  • Attend Educational In-Services, Mandatory Training and Annual Review as required by hospital policy and procedure, or deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Any and all other duties assigned to include ensuring departmental coverage.

Work Location

This Laboratory Technician 1-3 is located in the Pathology Department.

Work Hours

Shift will be determined by the department Manager.

Shift Differentials

In addition to Base Pay, Shift Pay and Certification pay is included only when working.

Rate of Pay
  • Laboratory Technician 1 $15.30/hour
  • Laboratory Technician 2 $16.37/hour
  • Laboratory Technician 3 $17.52/hour
