Job summary

Net2Source (N2S) is seeking a Technical Associate to support R&D, TS&D, and Manufacturing with ToF-SIMS analysis and sample handling in Wilmington, DE. The role involves instrument operation, data capture, and routine lab activities under supervision of senior scientists.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong skills in sample preparation, careful sample handling, and safe chemical handling.
  • Experience with whole wafers, diced wafers, thin films, and materials for semiconductor or advanced materials.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation in chemical, materials, or surface analysis labs.
  • Familiarity with high-vacuum instrumentation, mass spectrometry, surface analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy, or related techniques preferred.
  • Ability to document analytical results and prepare clear technical reports.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Ability to work in a team under tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and willingness to coordinate with scientists and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and handle wafers, diced wafers, powders, films, coatings and other materials.
  • Prepare air- or contamination-sensitive samples when required.
  • Perform routine ToF-SIMS analyses, including surface spectroscopy, chemical imaging, and depth profiling.
  • Operate the ToF-SIMS instrument during second shift hours, including loading, vacuum operation, beam tuning, data acquisition, and checks.
  • Support instrument maintenance and laboratory housekeeping per procedures.
  • Coordinate service or troubleshooting with first-shift operators and scientists.
  • Document experimental conditions, sample information, observations, and results in lab systems.
  • Prepare analysis summaries and contribute to technical reports.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste per protocols and maintain safety.
  • Work second-shift hours in coordination with first-shift scientists to ensure continuity.

Job description

Title: Technical Associate - Research & Development

Shift & Schedule: M-F ~4:00 pm – 12:30 am (some flexibility may be available in daily start/finish times) Can start as early as 3:30pm (end at midnight) or start as late as 11:00pm (end at 7:30 am).

Job Summary:

The candidate will support the Leveraged Analytical Sciences group through the second-shift operation of a Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) instrument. This is an in-person position located in Wilmington, DE.

The role will provide analytical support for Research and Development (R&D), Technical Service and Development (TS&D), and Manufacturing. The candidate will work under the direction of experienced scientists and will be responsible for sample preparation, routine ToF-SIMS analysis, instrument operation, documentation, and routine laboratory activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare samples for ToF-SIMS analysis following established procedures.
  • Mount and carefully handle semiconductor wafers, diced wafer pieces, powders, films, coatings, and other materials.
  • Prepare air- or contamination-sensitive samples when required.
  • Perform routine ToF-SIMS analyses, including surface spectroscopy, chemical imaging, and depth profiling using established analytical methods.
  • Operate the ToF-SIMS instrument during second-shift hours, including sample loading, vacuum system operation, beam tuning, data acquisition, and basic instrument checks.
  • Support routine instrument maintenance and laboratory housekeeping following established procedures.
  • Coordinate service or troubleshooting needs with first-shift operators and scientists.
  • Document experimental conditions, sample information, observations, and analytical results in appropriate laboratory systems.
  • Prepare analysis summaries and contribute to technical reports, including discussion of results, observations, and potential analytical findings.
  • Dispose of laboratory waste according to established protocols.
  • Work second-shift hours and coordinate with first-shift scientists to ensure continuity of laboratory operations.
  • Follow all established laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent knowledge acquired through on-the-job training.
  • Strong skills in sample preparation, careful sample handling, and safe chemical handling.
  • Experience preparing and handling whole wafers, diced wafer pieces, thin films, and other materials commonly encountered in semiconductor or advanced materials applications.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation in a chemical, materials, or surface analysis laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with high-vacuum instrumentation, mass spectrometry, surface analysis, spectroscopy, microscopy, or related techniques is preferred.
  • Ability to document analytical results and prepare clear, concise technical reports.
  • Demonstrated commitment to laboratory safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment under tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to coordinate closely with scientists and project stakeholders.
