Laboratory Technician
Job Summary

The Department of Surgery Research Laboratory is seeking afull-time laboratory technician to join our multidisciplinary teamengaged in translational, wet bench, and animal-based studies. Thisposition is responsible for conducting experiments, collecting andreporting data, and supporting the day-to-day operations of thelaboratory.

The department may choose to hire at any of the below joblevels and associated pay rates based on their business need andbudget.
Responsibilities
Experiments (50% Time)
  • Perform wet bench and animal-based experiments in support ofinvestigator-led research
  • Execute established protocols and assist in developing newexperimental procedures
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize experimental data
  • Assist with specimen processing, including tissue and biologicalsample handling
Record Keeping (20% Time)
  • Maintain accurate and organized laboratory records, includingexperimental data and protocols
  • Summarize and report experimental results
  • Ensure documentation meets regulatory and compliancerequirements
  • Assist with data management and organization of shared labresources
General Laboratory (30% Time)
  • Maintain laboratory organization, cleanliness, and equipmentfunctionality
  • Order supplies, manage inventory, and track reagent usage
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and safetyregulations (e.g., IACUC, biosafety)
  • Support overall lab operations and assist investigators,trainees, and staff as needed
Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following joblevels:

Laboratory Technician, I: Requires little to norelated experience.

Laboratory Technician, II: Requires at least 1year of related experience.

Laboratory Technician, III: Requires 3+ years ofrelated experience.

Laboratory Technician, IV: Requires 5+ years ofrelated experience.

Preferences

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific discipline orequivalent combination of education and experience (one year ofeducation may be substituted for two years of related workexperience). Demonstrated human relations and effectivecommunication skills are required.
