Job summary

Xylem in Roseville, CA is seeking a laboratory technician to analyze facility effluent using EPA methods and SOPs, enter results into databases, and ensure waste testing compliance. You will perform sampling, conduct analyses, and maintain instrument calibration in a safety-focused lab environment.

The role requires an AA or equivalent in chemistry or related field and about one year of inorganic analytical testing experience. Cleanroom-like procedures, PPE, and adherence to safety are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an AA or equivalent in chemistry, environmental science or chemical engineering.
• One year of industrial, inorganic analytical testing experience.
• Knowledge of analytical chemistry related to metals, cyanides and toxics.

Responsibilities

• Analyze facility effluent following EPA testing methods and SOPs.
• Enter results into databases and report to appropriate personnel.
• Perform sampling, testing and acceptance of client waste deliveries per SOPs.
• Enter information into computer databases and tag waste per RCRA Part B Permit.
• Operate laboratory instruments and maintain calibration for accurate results.
• Conduct wet chemical analysis and ion exchange testing per SOPs.
• Prepare reagents and ensure lab supplies are stocked.
• Attend lab safety meetings and uphold housekeeping standards.

• Work safely and adhere to Xylem safety policies and procedures.
• Analyze facility effluent in accordance with EPA testing methods and Evoqua SOPs.
• Enter result into databases and report results to the appropriate personnel.
• Perform sampling, testing and acceptance of client waste deliveries in accordance with SOPs.
• Enter information into computer database and tag waste in compliance with RCRA Part B Permit.
• Provide notification if a discrepancy is identified.
• Operate laboratory instruments; maintain instrument calibration to assure accurate test results.
• Conduct wet chemical analysis in accordance with Xylem SOPs.
• Conduct ion exchange and other testing using current SOPs.
• Make and standardize laboratory reagents solutions as needed and assure lab supplies are in stock and ordered as needed.
• Conduct lab safety meetings when directed and maintain appropriate housekeeping standards.
• Minimum of an AA or equivalent in chemistry, environmental science or chemical engineering.
• One year equivalent in industrial, inorganic analytical testing experience.
• Knowledge of analytical chemistry specifically related to metals, cyanides and toxics.
• Work in environment in proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, toxic-inorganic waste streams, fumes, odors, etc.
• Must be able to initiate and exit the plant within one minute.
• Must be able to respond to and distinguish between audible alarms.
• Must be able to work in hot conditions for extended periods.
• Must be able to wear a hardhat, face shield, safety glasses, earplugs, respirator and other required PPE.
• Able to traverse the building and grounds.
