Job summary

Kelly Science & Clinical in Portland, OR is seeking a Laboratory Technician II for a contract-to-hire role with a cutting-edge client. You will conduct and lead chemical laboratory processes, tests, and analyses to ensure product quality, working hands-on with instrumentation such as IC, ICP-MS, Roto-Vap, GC-MS, and UV-Vis.

You will prepare chemical solutions, test purity, apply SPC methods, and help train Laboratory Assistants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field; statistics coursework a plus.
• 3–5 years of direct experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• MS Office proficiency (Excel, Access, Word); JMP experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience with IC, ICP-MS, Roto-Vap, GC-MS, and UV-Vis.
• Semiconductor lab experience a plus.
• Strong math through calculus and statistics; understanding of Normality and Molarity.
• Ability to read/interpret technical documents and communicate in English.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control
• Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures
• Test and analyze chemicals to determine purity, and document results of tests and analyses
• Prepare and graph statistical data using SPC tools and methods
• Monitor equipment via SPC/Long-Term Stability and take corrective action per plans
• Maintain laboratory inventory and participate in planning lab activities
• Participate in training Laboratory Assistants and in developing new analysis methods
• Participate in Gauge R&R studies
• Utilize the ERP system to move product to next operation or flag out-of-control product
• Generate ideas for quality and process improvements; update SOPs
• Participate in trouble management programs and communicate quality issues across departments

Pay:

$28–$32/hour

Schedule:

4x10 rotating schedule (4 days on / 3 days off) including weekends, 6am–4:30pm or 9:30am–10am.

Starting schedule will be Monday–Friday, with shift varying based on training 6am–2:30pm, 6:30am–3pm, 7am–3:30pm, or 7:30am–4:30pm.

In this role, you will conduct and lead chemical laboratory processes, tests, and analyses to ensure product quality and safety, working hands-on with instrumentation such as Ion Chromatography (IC), ICP-MS, Roto-Vap, GC-MS, and UV-Vis. You'll prepare chemical solutions, test and analyze chemical purity, apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods, and help train and mentor Laboratory Assistants.

Responsibilities:

• Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control
• Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures
• Test and analyze chemicals to determine purity, and document results of tests and analyses
• Prepare and graph statistical data using Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools and methods
• Monitor equipment via SPC/Long-Term Stability and take corrective action for out-of-control situations per response plans
• Maintain laboratory inventory and participate in planning lab activities
• Participate in training/development of Laboratory Assistants and in developing new analysis methods for new or existing tools
• Participate in Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gauge R&R) studies
• Utilize the ERP system to move product to the next operation or flag out-of-control product
• Generate ideas for quality and process improvements; participate in documenting, reviewing, and updating SOPs
• Participate in the Company's trouble management programs and communicate quality issues across departments

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a closely related field; college-level statistics coursework a plus
• 3–5 years of directly relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
• Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, Access, and Word); experience with statistical analysis software (JMP) preferred
• Hands-on experience with lab instrumentation such as IC, ICP-MS, Roto-Vap, GC-MS, and UV-Vis strongly preferred
• Semiconductor lab experience a plus, not required
• Strong math skills through calculus and basic statistics, with thorough understanding of Normality and Molarity
• Ability to read/interpret technical documents and communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, shifting priorities quickly in a fast-paced lab environment
