Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking an ICP-MS Chemical Laboratory Technician for a contract-to-hire opportunity with a chemical manufacturing company in Portland, OR. The role involves leading and supporting laboratory processes with a focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

The position is onsite in Portland with a 4x10 rotating schedule, including weekends and shifts from 6:00 am–4:30 pm or 9:30 am–8:00 pm. Competitive hourly pay ranges from $24 to $36.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or closely related field.
• 1-5 years of directly relevant work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• MS Office proficiency; JMP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests.
• Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials according to procedures.
• Test and analyze chemicals to determine purity.
• Document results of tests and analyses.
• Graph and analyze data using SPC concepts for process improvements.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Participate in planning for lab activities.
• Lead training of Laboratory Assistants.
• Develop new analysis methods for existing or new tools.
• Monitor and review equipment performance and act on out-of-control indications.
• Move products through ERP system and notify plant of out-of-control product.
• Generate ideas for quality and process improvements.
• Document standard operating procedures.

Salary: $ 24-36/hour

• Laboratory Technician I – $24-28
• Laboratory Technician II - $28-32
• Laboratory Technician III $32-36

Workplace: Onsite Portland, OR

Overview

Leads and supports the design of chemical laboratory processes, tests, and analysis to ensure quality and safety, always keeping in mind our client’s Operating Priorities of Safety, Quality, and Productivity.

Responsibilities

• Set up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or process control.
• Prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
• Test and analyze chemicals to determine purity.
• Document results of tests and analyses.
• Prepare and graph statistical information on data using ideas and tools associated with Statistical Process Control. Use them for process improvement and enhancement of detectability in the lab.
• Maintain inventory of the laboratory.
• Participate in planning for lab activities.
• Lead training and development of Laboratory Assistants.
• Participate in developing new analysis methods on new or existing tools.
• Lead gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility studies.
• Monitor and review equipment using statistical process control / Long Term Stability and take appropriate action for out-of-control situations according to response plans.
• Utilize the ERP system to move the product to the next operation and notify the plant of out-of-control product.
• Generate and execute ideas for quality and process improvements.
• Lead documentation of standard operating procedures
• Communicate with other company departments regarding quality issues and information being generated in the laboratory.
• Participate in the laboratory’s close collaboration with production/production technical/quality assurance teams for department improvement activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or closely related field from a four-year college or university. College-level courses in statistics are desirable.
• 1-5 years of directly relevant work experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Computer/PC competency is essential. Must be proficient in working in MS Office (especially Excel, Access, and Word). Experience utilizing statistical analysis programs preferred (JMP).
