Job summary

SLB is seeking a Laboratory Technician to deliver safe, efficient, and reliable PSD services at the wellsite, while identifying opportunities to improve service delivery. You will perform QA tests, prepare laboratory reports, and provide advanced technical support during additive selection and fluid design.

You will maintain equipment, participate in HSE initiatives, and ensure compliance with safety training and standards.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 1–3 years in oil & gas, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, environmental testing, or related industries.
  • Hands‑on experience with sample preparation, basic wet chemistry, and routine analytical testing.
  • Understanding calibration, QA/QC practices, and data integrity principles.
  • Comfort with digital tools (LIMS, spreadsheets, test reporting systems).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Develop competency for advanced additive selection and fluid design.
  • Maintain lab equipment cleanliness and waste disposal routines.
  • Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure lab operates to required standards.
  • Assist Design/Technical Engineer and Product Champions with technical support.
  • Perform risk analysis before tasks to identify safety or quality concerns.
  • Participate in Service Quality Meetings with customers and implement action plans.
  • Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives.
  • Wear PPE and observe HSE policies.
  • Maintain required safety training.

Job description

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable PSD to customers. The Laboratory Technician identifies opportunities to improve service delivery. This person performs quality assurance tests on company products, prepares laboratory reports prior to service delivery at the wellsite, and provides advanced technical support during additive selection and fluid design. The Laboratory Technician maintains contact with the Client Support Labs and/or operating locations, product centers and the InTouch repository.

  • Ensure job deliverables are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Develop the competency level required to perform advanced additive selection and fluid design.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is in clean, working condition and that waste is regularly disposed.
  • Prepare technical presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure the laboratory operates according to required standards.
  • Assist the Design/Technical Engineer and Product Champions with technical support as required.
  • Perform risk analysis before each task or job to identify and mitigate potential safety or quality concerns.
  • Participate in Service Quality Meetings with customers and improve performance using action plans.
  • Participate in HSE and Quality initiatives.
  • Wear PPE and observe HSE policies.
  • Maintain the required safety training.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related scientific/technical field.
Experience
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience in oil & gas, energy, chemicals, manufacturing, environmental testing, or related industries (entry‑level candidates with strong lab internships may be considered).
Technical Skills
  • Hands‑on experience with sample preparation, basic wet chemistry, and routine analytical testing.
  • Understanding of calibration, QA/QC practices, and data integrity principles.
  • Comfort working with digital tools (LIMS, spreadsheets, test reporting systems).
