The successful candidate will liaise with Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations, investigate OOS results, and contribute to continuous improvement while upholding a clean, compliant lab environment and a strong safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or significant applied work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of analytical laboratory experience.
  • Experience with chemical and microbiological methods using listed instrumentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory testing on products per FDA/SQF/cGMP requirements and record results.
  • Investigate Out of Specification (OOS) results with appropriate staff and document actions.
  • Generate summaries of lab data to support FSQA and Operations.
  • Write, update, and maintain SOPs for analytical testing.
  • Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Job description

On Line Design, Inc. is seeking a Lab Technician in Franklin, Ohio to ensure product quality, safety, and regulatory compliance by supporting laboratory operations and production. The role centers on performing and interpreting analytical testing, monitoring processes, and maintaining accurate documentation to uphold FDA, SQF, and cGMP standards.

Serving as a key link between Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations, the technician helps identify and resolve quality issues, supports continuous improvement, and maintains a well-organized, compliant lab environment while promoting safe and efficient practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Laboratory Testing and Analysis
  • Conduct laboratory testing on product batches to ensure compliance with FDA, Safe Quality Food (SQF), and cGMP requirements, along with regional and national health authority regulations.
  • Perform chemical and physical analysis on product, ingredients, and control samples according to laboratory procedures, including reporting, data entry, and internal GMP audit activities.
  • Understand the concept behind each analysis, anticipate expected results, and follow through on any deviation.
  • Schedule raw material, in-process, bulk, and finished product testing efficiently and in support of the production schedule.
  • Ensure products are released or rejected as appropriate.
  • Record all product analysis according to laboratory protocols, including data entry in the computer system.
Quality Systems and Compliance
  • Investigate all Out of Specification (OOS) results with the appropriate staff and document them properly.
  • Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, and R&D on questionable batches and results.
  • In conjunction with FSQA, develop, implement, review, and maintain the analytical testing, environmental monitoring, and calibration portions of the SQF program.
  • Own departmental non-conformances and corrective actions, ensuring all actions are documented and outstanding items closed in a timely manner.
  • Generate summaries of lab data to support FSQA and Operations.
Production Support (Backup to FSQA)
  • Conduct first case inspections, acting as an independent observer to verify correct packaging setup across all production lines.
  • Serve as backup reviewer of work orders.
Documentation, Training, and Lab Management
  • Write, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for analytical testing.
  • Develop, train, and verify preventive control trained individuals on pH and water activity.
  • Develop, train on, and document environmental swabbing procedures.
  • Ensure lab-applicable SQF documents are safely stored, maintained, and accessible.
  • Monitor and maintain the laboratory, including supplies and equipment.
  • Proactively support employee health and safety and contribute to continuous improvement of the company's safety performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Quality, Science, or a related field - or significant applied work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of analytical laboratory experience.
  • Experience with chemical and microbiological methods using instrumentation including FTIR/NIR, RQ Flex, viscometer, pH meter, MLS, and other techniques as required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with basic laboratory record-keeping systems.
  • Technical writing experience preferred.
