Our team is seeking a skilled Benchling ELN Engineer to support a major, world-class Biopharmaceutical leader at their cutting-edge manufacturing and development site in Santa Monica, CA.
About the Role
This role bridges software development and wet-lab scientific research, focusing on configuring Benchling’s Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) platform, streamlining lab barcoding systems, and ensuring seamless data workflows for advanced testing and development activities. The ideal candidate brings a blend of systems configuration, software automation (Python/Java), and a deep understanding of scientific workflows in Process Development and Analytical Testing.
Responsibilities
- Benchling Configuration: Partner with business and scientific stakeholders to gather requirements and directly configure Benchling ELN modules (Notebook, Registry, Inventory, Workflows) to automate laboratory operations.
- Lab Automation & Barcoding: Develop, implement, and troubleshoot custom dashboards and label report configurations leveraging BarTender software integrated with Zebra printers and hardware scanners.
- Sprint Delivery: Execute technical builds according to standard SDLC practices, participating in Agile sprint sessions and scoping technical effort.
- Compliance & Validation: Draft clear technical documentation and support Computer System Validation (CSV) protocols to ensure systems remain aligned with internal GxP standards.
- System Support: Monitor day-to-day platform performance, perform troubleshooting, and resolve technical issues for on-site lab personnel.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bio-Informatics, Engineering, or a related life‑sciences discipline.
Required Skills
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of direct, hands‑on experience implementing, building schemas, and configuring the Benchling ELN platform (inclusive of relevant internship experience).
- Hardware/Labeling Integration: Proven experience setting up and troubleshooting BarTender label design software, Zebra printers, and associated barcoding technologies within a physical lab footprint.
- Scientific Literacy: Previous experience working inside a Biotech, Pharma, or medical device scientific research environment with a fundamental understanding of wet‑lab workflows.
- Methodologies: Solid grasp of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and familiarity with Computer System Validation (CSV) / regulatory guidelines.
