Job summary

Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is seeking a Phlebotomist to support the Microbiology department. The role involves performing waived testing or aiding in moderately complex assays under supervision, with a focus on specimen prep, centrifuge use, and equipment checks.

Required are two years of phlebotomy experience and a phlebotomy certification or an applicable health care degree. Shifts are 4–10 hours, every other weekend, with rotating holidays.

Qualifications

• Two years of phlebotomy experience with all age groups.
• Active Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized agency, or an Associate's Degree in a health care related field.
• Medical Laboratory Science student in at least their third year.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived testing or assist in moderately complex laboratory tests under supervision.
• Prepare specimens for testing; centrifuge maintenance and electrical checks; temperature charts; pipette maintenance and calibration.
• Locate specimens on pending lists and follow hospital policies and procedures.

Job Summary

Performs waived testing or assists in the performance of moderately complex laboratory tests under supervision to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Responsibilities include specimen preparation for testing, centrifuge maintenance & electrical checks, temperature charts, pipette maintenance & calibration, and locating specimens on pending lists. Follows all hospital and laboratory policies, guidelines, procedures and protocols pertaining to job duties and meets expectations for performance standards.

Required Qualifications

• Require an experienced phlebotomist with two (2) years of phlebotomy experience with all age groups, and one year registration experience which may be concurrent with phlebotomy experience with an active Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized agency; or an Associate's Degree in a health care related field such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, or health science; or a Medical Laboratory Science student that is in at least their third (3rd) year of studies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer one (1) year laboratory related experience.
• Prefer demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Prefer basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications and office equipment.

Mandatory Education

HS EQ: High School Diploma, GED or Certificate

4- 10hr shifts, every other weekend and rotating holidays.
