Job description

Pulmonary Medicine Sleep Lab Technical Supervisor

The Pulmonary Medicine Sleep Lab Technical Supervisor works in collaboration with the Director of the sleep lab and Administrator to plan, direct, and evaluate technical staff patient care and technical support services. The supervisor is responsible for the daily management of technical services and supervision of all technical staff members. Other responsibilities include oversight and delegation of QA for all technical and research support functions, clinical policy development and review, and ensuring compliance with AASM standards and CMS technical regulations. The lab supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining a healthy work environment and participating with the Program Director, Medical Director, and Clinical Administrator in developing and administering division goals and objectives. Additionally, the supervisor trains and performs all duties of Registered Polysomnographer /Sleep Technologist and clerical office staff as needed. This position may require overnight shift coverage on an emergency basis due to staff shortages.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to
  1. Performing all supervisory duties related to the Pulmonary Sleep Lab technical staff members.
  2. Ensuring QA reports are completed in conjunction with the Administrative and Sleep Lab Director to ensure compliance with CMS regulations and AASM accreditation standards.
  3. Promoting a multi-disciplinary quality improvement program that incorporates patient care standards and meets CMS and AASM regulations.
  4. Organizing and completing projects within specified timelines.
  5. Scoring sleep studies, formatting system-generated preliminary reports when needed, and assigning studies to interpreting physicians for final interpretation.
  6. Promoting open and effective communication among staff, patients, and providers.
  7. Developing and implementing ongoing problem-solving processes involving input from staff, management, physicians, and NPPs.
  8. Managing the scheduling of technical staff to ensure adequate coverage for all sleep studies.
  9. Coordinating and accommodating time-off requests while maintaining operational efficiency and patient care quality.
  10. Monitoring staffing levels and adjusting schedules as needed to meet the sleep lab's demands.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Polysomnography required.
  • Five to ten years of experience as a registered polysomnographic technologist (RPGST), including at least three years in a supervisory role.
  • CPR/BCLS certification required.
  • Board Certification of Polysomnographer (RPSGT) required.
  • NY State License for polysomnographer required.
  • Knowledge of direct patient care and technical support in an outpatient sleep lab setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sleep recordings, equipment use, maintenance, and repair of both analog and digital polysomnographic (PSG) equipment.
  • Knowledge of Nihon Koden PSG equipment preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of AASM standards and CMS technical regulations.
