Job summary

SPL is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor in Artesia, NM to lead daily workflow and analytical testing operations at our laboratory. This hands-on leader will guide staff, manage testing priorities, and drive quality, safety, and efficiency in a fast-paced accredited testing environment.

The ideal candidate will have a science degree, 3+ years in regulated labs, and proven leadership experience with instrumentation, test methods, and data review.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science).
• 3+ years in regulated analytical labs with hands-on testing and data review.
• Experience leading laboratory personnel and developing staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision of lab personnel.
• Prioritize and monitor workflows to ensure timely testing.
• Coordinate staffing, training, and performance management.
• Oversee instrumentation, maintenance, and resource allocation.
• Ensure compliance with quality systems, SOPs, and regulatory standards.
• Review data and records for accuracy and completeness.
• Support troubleshooting of instruments and methods.
• Monitor capacity, turnaround times, and efficiency metrics.
• Contribute to audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
• Promote lab safety policies and PPE compliance.
• Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

We are seeking a motivated Laboratory Supervisor to lead daily workflow and analytical testing operations at our laboratory in Artesia, NM.

This is an exciting opportunity for a current laboratory supervisor or experienced team lead with a strong analytical background and a collaborative, hands-on leadership style. The successful candidate will guide laboratory personnel, coordinate testing priorities, support employee development, and resolve technical and operational challenges. This role will also help advance laboratory quality, safety, compliance, turnaround times, and operational efficiency within a fast-paced, accredited testing environment.

What You’ll Do

• Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and operational support to laboratory personnel
• Assign, prioritize, and monitor laboratory workflows to ensure accurate and timely completion of testing activities
• Support staffing coordination, scheduling, training, coaching, and employee performance management
• Oversee laboratory operations, instrumentation, calibrations, preventative maintenance, and resource allocation
• Ensure compliance with laboratory quality systems, SOPs, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements
• Review analytical data, laboratory records, and documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
• Support troubleshooting activities involving instrumentation, analytical methods, and operational processes
• Monitor laboratory capacity, inventory levels, turnaround times, and operational efficiency metrics
• Participate in audits, investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Promote and enforce laboratory safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental health and safety procedures
• Collaborate with laboratory leadership and cross-functional teams to support operational priorities and objectives
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or related scientific discipline
• 3+ years of progressively responsible, hands-on experience within regulated analytical laboratory environments
• Demonstrated experience leading laboratory personnel, managing workloads, and supporting employee development
• Working knowledge of analytical instrumentation, test methods, sample workflows, data review, quality systems and practices, regulatory requirements, SOPs, and laboratory safety protocols
• Ability to identify workflow or quality issues, support corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and LIMS

Work Schedule & Travel

• Full-time onsite position based in Artesia, NM
• Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as needed to support operational demands
• Occasional travel may be required for training, audits, meetings, or operational support activities
