Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for the Blood Bank at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. The role oversees daily operations, mentors staff, and ensures accurate tests with timely reporting.

The position requires an Associate’s degree in a chemical/biological science and 5+ years of lab testing experience, with ASCP/AMT certification preferred. Mon-Fri 3:00pm-11:30pm with rotating weekends; $15,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates and a $90k–$120k salary range plus benefits.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the Blood Bank department.
• Ensure laboratory tests are accurate and results reported timely.
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor department personnel.
• Monitor daily workflow and schedule adequate assay coverage.
• Maintain proper staffing for all shifts.
• Research and resolve production errors; escalate as needed.
• Engage in process and service level improvements.
• Maintain Quality Control on all equipment.
• Prepare and maintain Quality Assurance records.
• Evaluate process improvements and make recommendations.
• Provide coaching and feedback to direct reports.
• Perform bench work and maintain competency in operations.
• Ensure compliance with state and Federal regulations.
• Administer policies and procedures; manage payroll/files.
• Perform administrative duties as needed.

Laboratory Supervisor

Labcorp is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 3:00pm-11:30pm; rotating weekends.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise the day to day operations of the Blood Bank department
• Ensure laboratory tests are accurately performed and results are reported in a timely manner
• Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel of the department
• Monitor daily workflow in the lab and schedule adequate assay coverage
• Responsible for ensuring all shifts in the department are properly staffed
• Research and resolve any production errors while escalating when necessary
• Engage in continuous process and service level improvements
• Ensure all equipment is being properly maintained through Quality Control
• Prepare and maintain Quality Assurance records and documents
• Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations
• Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching and feedback for their development
• Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations
• Ensure all work is in accordance with state and Federal regulations
• Responsible for administering and managing policies and procedures
• Process and maintain payroll and personnel files
• Perform administrative duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
• 5 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
• 6 months or more of supervising or leading a team
• ASCP or AMT certification

Additional Job Standards

• In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
• Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
• Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
• Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
• High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
• Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
• Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
• Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
• Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Pay Range

• $90,000 - $120,000 annually

All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.

Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
