Job summary

The US Oncology Network is hiring a Laboratory Services Supervisor for its facility in The Woodlands, Texas. In this full-time role, you'll ensure operational efficiency and compliance in laboratory testing while supervising personnel. Responsibilities include overseeing test procedures, maintaining safety standards, and managing quality control.

We seek candidates with at least five years of laboratory experience, relevant degrees, and supervisory experience is preferred. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, with no weekend shifts.

Overview

Texas Oncology is looking for a Laboratory Services Supervisor to join our team. This full‑time position is located in The Woodlands, Texas and will be Monday‑Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. No weekends, call, or major holidays.

Long‑Term Incentive Plan (LTIP)

The LTIP is an incentive program that typically vests over three years and is tied to individual performance and operational success. Awards are discretionary and based on position, performance and potential for future career growth. Awards are reviewed and approved during the annual compensation review.

Laboratory Services Supervisor Responsibilities

Responsible for the efficient operation of a moderate or high complexity laboratory facility. Ensures accurate and timely testing procedures. Assures compliance with applicable regulations regarding laboratory operations. Participates in site‑specific daily operations, communications and patient flow. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

  • Acts as working general supervisor for the laboratory.
  • Performs routine tests as required and develops knowledge of more complex tests to perform as needed.
  • Supervises laboratory personnel.
  • Evaluates qualifications of potential employees; interviews, hires, monitors and evaluates performance; trains or assigns training of lab personnel.
  • Provides for continuing education program and monitors employee participation.
  • Schedules laboratory personnel.
  • Directly supervises day‑to‑day testing and reporting.
  • Establishes and monitors quality assurance, quality control, proficiency testing and routine maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and monitors policies and procedures for overall testing performance.
  • Selects, evaluates, and validates all test methods.
  • Writes new test procedures and maintains a current procedure manual.
  • Reviews patient test results, quality control, proficiency testing and maintenance records.
  • Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
  • Maintains awareness of and compliance with state, federal regulations regarding laboratory operations and licensing.
  • Maintains awareness of and compliance with state and federal OSHA regulations and other safety regulations.
  • Enforces safety standards.
  • Maintains employee health records when mandated.
  • Orders supplies and equipment.
  • Evaluates new equipment and reagents for technical suitability and cost effectiveness.
  • Performs cost analysis on major equipment purchases.
  • Analyzes true cost of providing individual tests and other laboratory services.
  • Recommends pricing of tests and other services based on the analysis.
  • Interfaces with other disciplines (e.g., nursing, clerical) to ensure a smoothly functioning and efficient operation.
  • Maintains a clean working environment and restocks the laboratory area as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.
  • Assists management in budgeting, cost analysis, marketing and managed care contracts.
  • Participates in site‑specific daily operations, communications and patient flow.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of applicable labor laws.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Medical Technology or related science field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in laboratory testing.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification required.
  • Current state licensure if required.
Physical Demands

Physical demands include full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, sitting/standing for prolonged periods, handling of complex laboratory equipment, occasional lifting of items up to 40 lbs, corrected vision, color perception and hearing within normal ranges, and legible handwriting. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment with significant interaction with management, staff and external auditors and clients. Frequent travel by air or automobile is expected, approximately 70% of the work week, on average.
