University of Utah is seeking a Laboratory Services Manager to oversee and manage ECE student teaching laboratories and stockroom operations, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, budgeting, and reporting to upper administration.

The role involves leading laboratory staff, coordinating scheduling, overseeing inventory and reporting, and ensuring quality and cost control across all laboratory activities in the ECE Department.

Qualifications

  • Equivalency: 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience.
  • Manager, Laboratory Services: bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
  • Senior Manager, Laboratory Services: bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct/Manage/Supervise student‑teaching laboratory services and stockroom within the ECE Department.
  • Oversee all laboratory activities, services and operations responsible for cost control, waste reduction, quality, and safety.
  • Lead security and access operator for university C‑ CURE system.
  • Departmental Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS ) compliance officer ensuring training for lab staff and compliance reporting.
  • Ensure lab equipment is in proper working order, oversee maintenance and ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, standards, and protocols.
  • Manage planning and development for new laboratory services and expansion of current services such as 3D and resin printing.
  • Track, report and maintain student lab fee budget and associated inventory.
  • Coordinate with scheduling to meet course specifications.
  • Oversee inventory reporting and property disposal for the department.
  • Prepare reports and keep upper‑level management informed of progress and problems.
  • Responsible for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, time card approvals and pay reviews.
  • Broad knowledge of the field with proven leadership skills.

Job Summary

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Electrical Engineering degree may be preferred.

Master’s degree may be preferred.
