Summary of Job Duties:

The Laboratory Procedure Technician in the Gross Room plays a vital role in the pathology laboratory by assisting pathologists and pathology assistants in the preparation and gross examination of surgical specimens.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications :
  • Associates degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology degree - OR - 60 credit hours obtained from an accredited institution that must include 24 credit hours in Medical Technology or Science Courses which include 6 credit hours of Biology & 6 credit hours of Chemistry.
  • Ability to work on occasional weekends and rotate on-call duties.
Preferred Qualifications :
  • One (1) year experience as a grossing tech or assistant.
  • Professional License/Certification (Certified by ASCP or equivalent).
  • Experience in a hospital setting.
  • EPIC training
Additional Information:
  • Responsibilities include assessing specimen acceptability, accessioning, dictating gross descriptions, specimen preparation, morgue procedures, cryostat maintenance, troubleshooting, and general lab duties.
