Job summary

HHMI seeks a highly organized Laboratory Manager for opportunities within University of Washington labs. The role oversees equipment maintenance, supplies, safety programs, and administrative liaison with HHMI and host institutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health or physical sciences or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
• Three or more years of laboratory experience including at least one year of supervisory experience.
• Operational knowledge of advanced lab equipment; ability to supervise others; ability to develop instructional materials for routine training.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day activities within the research laboratory, ensuring operation of essential equipment and supplies.
• Act as liaison between lab, HHMI, and host institution administrative offices on budget, assets, purchasing, and account use.
• Ensure compliance by coordinating with host safety and regulatory offices.
• Develop laboratory guidelines; maintain procedures manuals; evaluate new materials and equipment.
• Train incoming personnel in proper lab conduct and possibly supervise junior staff.
• Possibly carry out research projects and evaluate new techniques.
• Plan and provide supervision to Research Technicians or junior personnel.
