Job Summary

This position supervises operations of the STEM instructional laboratory with activities relating to safety, development and instruction of lab procedures and processes, conducting experiments, budgeting and purchasing, equipment and inventory maintenance and records maintenance. This role can spend up to half of their working time instructing courses and laboratories.

Responsibilities
  • Is responsible to understand, support, and carry out the college's mission, vision, and values and comply with mandates and regulations of government and accrediting bodies
  • Oversees and manages daily operation of laboratory facility in safe, clean and organized manner
  • Instructs and advises lab users on proper use of lab equipment, lab safety, protocols and procedures related to conducting experiments
  • Instructs Science laboratories and/or Courses as credentials allow
  • Oversees scheduling of lab usage
  • Develops and administers laboratory budget, oversee purchase of supplies and equipment, maintains related records
  • Develops and implements laboratory policies and procedures; incorporates best practices as appropriate
  • Oversees calibration and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Oversees use and storage of chemicals
  • Plans and directs work of staff and assess performance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in scientific field with six (6) or more years of job-related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, Master's degree is preferred

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

Required to hold a GHC purchasing card which requires a credit check to receive and continue holding a purchasing card

  • Knowledge of instructional or research laboratory operation to include equipment calibration and maintenance, laboratory processes and procedures and lab safety rules and practices
  • Knowledge of specific course content for assigned teaching duties
  • Knowledge of project management approaches and tools, project planning, timeline, and budget management
  • Skills in communication, customer service, supervision and instruction
  • Ability to work with complex laboratory equipment and computer programs used to perform experiments.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership in the laboratory
