Campbell University’s School of Engineering is seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead all engineering labs, manage equipment/instrumentation, and ensure safety and compliance, reporting to the Dean and working with faculty and staff.
The role requires 5+ years in laboratory management, a degree in engineering, and strong IT proficiency. Responsibilities include safety oversight, budget and procurement, accreditation support and coordination with Facilities.
The Laboratory Manager for the School of Engineering, works in conjunction with the Dean, faculty and staff of the School of Engineering to manage, coordinate, and facilitate the efficient operation of the School. This employee provides key support to the office of the Dean, support for faculty and staff, in addition to other assigned duties.
Oversee all engineering laboratories, classlabs, equipment, instrumentation, processes and buildings in the School of Engineering.
Maintain all laboratory equipment, instrumentation and related supplies and materials in proper working order; engage in electronic troubleshooting using a DMM.
Manage hazardous waste to abide by state andfederal regulations; create and maintain procedures on how to treat and storehazardous waste.
Investigate and resolve all equipment and laboratory-related problems and issues.
Schedule and oversee all major repairs and annual maintenance of equipment and instrumentation.
Oversee, submit requests for, and order all approved equipment, instrumentation, materials, and supplies for all laboratories, classlabs, competition teams, and related activities.
Evaluate and oversee all procurement of equipment, materials and instrumentation.
Hire, train, and supervise (with approval from the Dean) all undergraduate student workers for the engineering labs.
Analyze and anticipate all laboratory and classlab needs.
Monitor inventory for all labs, classlabs, and courses which utilize equipment and laboratories.
Serve as the School of Engineering Laboratory Safety Officer.
Oversee all laboratory documentation, signage, safety equipment, evacuation plans, and related training for facutly, staff, and students.
Maintain all documentation and websites associated with School of Engineering laboratory, equipment and instrumentation usage, training, reporting, and safety requirements.
Oversee data collection to support ABET accreditation activities.
Serve as liaison between the School of Engineering and campus Facilities and Housekeeping.
Oversee the safety training program and enforcement for all students, faculty and staff in the School of Engineering.
Manage and conduct laboratory safety training for all students, faculty and staff in the School of Engineering., as well as related documentation
Assist with accreditation activities involving the laboratories, classlabs, equipment, and instrumentation.
Assist faculty, as needed, with preparation of laboratory classes.
Supervise other laboratory personnel.
Assist with special projects and events.
Manage multiple, concurrent projects and still meet strict deadlines.
Collaborate and interact with engineering professionals.
Organize, direct, and prioritize work appropriately.
Create new lab management processes and responsibilities in response to new engineering challenges from senior design projects and other emerging technology.

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related discipline preferred.
Expertise with a variety of mechanical, chemical, electrical and/or 3D printing equipment and machining desirable.
Minimum of five years’ experience in a laboratory role with management/oversight responsibilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms, and Flow; CNC conversational programs, vector editing software, and CAD/CAM software and the Internet and ability to quickly learn additional software programs and tools necessary to carry out job duties
