Job summary

SoTalent is seeking a Manager, Laboratory – Day Shift, to oversee clinical laboratory operations, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and drive cost-efficient service delivery. The role requires strategic leadership, budget oversight, and staff development across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and related areas.

The ideal candidate will have a CLS license where applicable, a Bachelor’s in medical technology (Master’s preferred), and 5+ years in clinical labs with supervisory

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field required; Master’s preferred.
  • Five+ years of clinical laboratory experience with leadership/supervisory roles.
  • Current CLS license where required by state regulations and ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily clinical laboratory operations, staffing, workflows and service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain quality control and quality assurance programs to ensure compliant testing.
  • Monitor performance, trends and variances; implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, phlebotomy, and related areas.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and coordinate inspections and audits.
  • Develop policies and process improvements to enhance safety, efficiency and quality.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical guidance on testing procedures and equipment.
  • Supervise, train, schedule and evaluate laboratory staff; manage hiring and performance.
  • Allocate resources based on demand and skill levels; manage budgets and finances.

Manager, Laboratory – Day Shift, Full-Time
Position Overview

A healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a clinical laboratory. The role is responsible for laboratory performance, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, financial management, staffing, and service delivery.

Working closely with medical and regional laboratory leadership, the Manager will provide operational and technical oversight while ensuring that laboratory services consistently meet quality, safety, regulatory, and patient-care standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage daily clinical laboratory operations, including staffing, equipment, supplies, workflows, and service delivery.
  • Develop and maintain quality control and quality assurance programs to ensure accurate, reliable, and compliant testing.
  • Monitor laboratory performance, quality indicators, trends, and operational results, identifying issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Oversee laboratory functions across areas such as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, phlebotomy, specimen processing, immunology, and pathology.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and organizational standards and coordinate preparation for inspections and audits.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and process improvements to support safe, efficient, and high-quality laboratory services.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving, and technical guidance relating to testing procedures, equipment, specimens, and results.
  • Lead, supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate laboratory staff, including making recommendations regarding hiring, promotions, compensation, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Allocate staff and resources based on operational demands, patient needs, and employee skill levels.
  • Prepare and manage laboratory operating and capital budgets, monitor financial performance, and investigate budget variances.
  • Partner with Finance and laboratory leadership to support accurate billing, coding, accounting, auditing, and reimbursement processes.
  • Identify opportunities for cost containment and operational efficiency while maintaining quality and patient-care standards.
  • Prepare operational reports, analyses, recommendations, and performance updates for leadership.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops as required.
  • Collaborate with regional laboratory specialists and organizational leaders to ensure consistency and continuous improvement across laboratory operations.
Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, biological sciences, chemical sciences, allied health technologies, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Experience
  • Five or more years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Licensure & Certification
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license where required by state regulations.
  • ASCP or equivalent laboratory certification preferred or required depending on location.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex laboratory operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience developing and monitoring quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Understanding of laboratory financial management, budgeting, billing, and cost-containment practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory and accreditation requirements and translate them into effective policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions in a complex clinical environment.
