Laboratory Collection - Phlebotomist I - Full-Time

A Lab Assistant I - Phlebotomist performs adult and pediatric phlebotomy, along with daily tasks such as centrifuging, aliquoting, and stabilizing patient specimens for transport via courier or pneumatic tube system. Responsibilities also include accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and demographic verification.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Perform proper venipuncture and post-care of phlebotomy sites, ensuring specimens are labeled with two forms of ID and zero labeling errors.
  • Register patients and handle requisitions using Meditech, Accureg, and Cayuga Connect. Participate in quality assurance and maintain departmental workflows.
  • Minimize butterfly usage, maintain professional knowledge through educational opportunities.
  • Manage inventory and checklists, troubleshoot temperature issues, and assist with checklist completion.
  • Maintain a compliant environment, adhering to lab and hospital procedures, HIPAA standards, and safety guidelines.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational phlebotomy course/program or 1 year of phlebotomy experience.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage time, and adapt to changing work volumes.
Physical Requirements:
  • Light lifting (up to 10 lbs.), carrying supplies.
  • Repetitive hand use, sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods.
Location and Travel:
  • Onsite at Cayuga Park Outpatient Lab, Ithaca, NY.
  • Full-time days, typically Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm, with rotating weekends.
  • 0%-10% travel expected.
Pay Range:
  • $17.79 to $24.04 per hour plus benefits.
