  • Hourly rate is an estimate only, including shift differential for nights, evenings, or weekends. Overall hourly rates will vary based on schedule.
Schedule:

Tuesday - Friday (40 hrs/wk), 8:00 PM - 6:30 AM

Training Schedule:

5 weeks, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Primary Purpose:

In Infectious Disease Processing, the Lab Client Support Technician provides technical and preanalytic support for ARUP's clients and testing sections. Responsibilities include evaluating specimen acceptability, contacting clients regarding specimen details, and supporting department training and competency within 6 months. Preferred candidates have college-level courses in medical terminology, biology, communications, or related life sciences.

Essential Functions:
  • Understand proper specimen collection, handling, and transportation.
  • Process specimens accurately according to departmental procedures, including triaging and storing.
  • Evaluate specimen acceptability and initiate problem resolution.
  • Process add-on testing requests.
  • Develop proficiency with laboratory information systems such as ANSR, ESP, IMS, Millennium, among others.
  • Communicate courteously with customers and laboratories, providing test results and guidance.
  • Maintain competency with pre-analytic equipment and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical sections and customers, building positive relationships.
  • Document communications, resolutions, and follow-ups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Ability to bend, reach, move between sites, and communicate effectively.
  • Use of PPE in a biohazard environment, complying with CDC and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force and perform fine motor tasks.
  • Accurate specimen identification, test performance, and result reporting are essential.
  • Visual acuity for diverse tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Preferred Education: Associates Degree or higher in Biology or related field.
  • Required Experience: Completion of department-specific training and competency within 6 months.
  • Preferred Experience: Customer service, call center, general medical laboratory, LIS familiarity, and HIPAA knowledge.
