Responsibilities

1. Support our Regional Microbiology team as a Lab Assistant Tech, playing a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely diagnostic testing.
2. Process microbiology samples of all specimen types onto appropriate media.
3. Prepare and sterilize laboratory equipment and supplies.
4. Collect, process, and label patient samples following established protocols.
5. Perform routine laboratory procedures such as plating, streaking, and inoculation.
6. Maintain accurate records and documentation of all laboratory activities.
7. Assist with the preparation of reagents and media.
8. Clean and maintain laboratory work areas and equipment.
9. Follow all safety protocols and regulations.
10. Assist Clinical Lab Scientists and Medical Lab Techs as needed.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. At least 1 year of laboratory clerical and/or phlebotomy experience in an acute care facility.
3. Preferred: 1 year of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory setting.
4. Familiarity with laboratory equipment including microscopes, incubators, and autoclaves.
5. Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols and regulations.
6. Phlebotomy training suitable for all age groups.
7. California Phlebotomy Technician License (CT Phlebotomy) required.
8. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification (AHA BLS) required.
9. Fire Safety Card (CT Fire Card) required within 90 days of hire.
