Job summary

NYU Langone Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support day-to-day laboratory operations, including specimen processing, inventory management, and communication with providers and other laboratories.

The role involves front-end and back-end processing of samples, ensuring specimen quality, proper storage, and compliant disposal. Strong computer skills and excellent communication are required for success.

Qualifications

High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
Laboratory experience handling lab materials including biological samples.
Knowledge of computer applications, especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

Maintain supplies for the laboratory and communicate needs to supervisor.
Receive and document goods per policy and regulatory guidelines.
Process and prepare samples for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquotting, transport).
Prepare samples for storage and track disposal per policy.
Maintain clean work surfaces and equipment per protocols.
Log temperature and humidity for equipment and areas.
Handle addon specimen retrieval within and outside the department.
Review routine and stat pending lists and retrieve missed tests.
Answering calls and assist with test requirements and availability.
Access automated test platforms to check sample status.
Ship blood and body fluids to other sites.
Assist in blood product modification (irradiation, thawing).
Inventory management of blood products (receiving, stocking, expiry).
Other duties as assigned
