Job summary

Maury Regional Health in Columbia, TN, is seeking a Laboratory Assistant for Specimen Collect on a PRN basis. You will perform specimen collection, handling and processing, review requisitions, and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody in a hospital laboratory setting.

The role requires 1 year of hospital laboratory experience; preferred phlebotomy certification and a high school diploma or equivalent; TN driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1 year laboratory experience in a hospital or similar setting is required.
  • Phlebotomist certification preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection, handling and processing tasks.
  • Receive and respond to client inquiries and requests.
  • Review requisitions for appropriate test orders, diagnosis codes, date and physician signature; ensure legibility.
  • Scan requisitions into the medical record and maintain chain of custody; verify medical necessity and insurance details; adhere to HIPAA requirements.

SHIFT: PRN, Shifts vary as needed

Functions under routine supervision to perform specimen collection, handling and processing tasks; receive and respond to client inquiries and requests; reviews requisitions for appropriate test orders, diagnosis codes, date and signature of physician, and legibility; scans requisitions into the medical record; perform chain of custody collections; monitors medical necessity and insurance verification. Follows HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy and protection.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
