Job summary

Highpoint Health - Sumner with Ascension Saint Thomas is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our team, performing phlebotomy and specimen processing.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, phlebotomy training, CPR, and ASCP/ASPT certification within two years; OTJ training provided; ability to work under pressure in a busy lab.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy training or certification preferred.
  • CPR certification (Heartsaver/American Heart Association) required or obtained within two years of employment.
  • PBT (ASCP or ASPT) or equivalent preferred within two years.
  • OTJ training provided for CLA duties.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy duties.
  • Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Performs clerical duties including data entry and filing.
  • Communicates test results to healthcare providers.

How you'll contribute

A Clinical Laboratory Assistantwho excels in this role:

  • Performs phlebotomy duties.
  • Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing and transporting specimens.
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies.
  • Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic and organized manner.
  • Performs clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and filing.
  • Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent

Additional requirements include:

  • Prior phlebotomy training and minimum of one (1) year phlebotomy experience.
  • Heartsaver CPR American Heart Association.
  • PBT (ASCP or ASPT) or equivalent obtained within two years of employment, preferred.
  • Completes on-the-job (OTJ) training for CLA duties.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to perform routine venipuncture and skin puncture.
