Job summary

Norman Regional is seeking a phlebotomy technician for a regular full-time night shift in Norman, OK. The role involves venipuncture, specimen handling, and processing for testing with adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities include receiving specimens, performing waived tests as needed, and maintaining knowledge of laboratory automation. BLS certification is required and benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.
• 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months in a medical field with patient care or phlebotomy rotation.

• Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
• Processes specimens for testing, storage and send out to reference laboratories.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and testing limitations.

• Understands Lab automation line functionality; acts as information resource.
• Ensures timely specimen collection and avoids contamination.

Job Summary

• Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests and know all safety requirements.
• Receives and distributes specimens in the laboratory.
• Processes specimens for testing, storage and send out to reference laboratories.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitation of testing procedures.
• Performs waived testing as required.
• Demonstrates knowledge about the functionality of the Lab's automation line.
• Acts as a resource for laboratory information.
• Timeliness of specimen collections and contamination.

Qualifications

Education

• High school education or equivalent.
• Requires some knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience

• 3 months phlebotomy experience, or a phlebotomy certificate with 32 hours of clinical rotation, or 6 months experience in a medical field providing patient care which includes drawing blood or blood processing, or current MLT student in clinical rotations, or one or more college level courses in a biological science

(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience).

Licensure/Certification

• Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.

Compensation/Benefits

• $15.45-$25.24/hr depending on previous work experience
• Position qualifies for $1.75/hr night shift differential
