Job summary

Onterris seeks a Full-Time Laboratory Assistant for our Orange, CA lab in the Metals department. You will support disposal, glassware cleaning, sample handling, and equipment maintenance to ensure on-time results. Compensation ranges from $17.25 to $20 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. You will work with QA and safety teams and use LIMS daily to track samples and logs.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork.
  • Prior laboratory, sample-handling, or wet chemistry experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Pick up, check in/out, retrieve, return, and organize samples.
  • Assist with sample weighing and weighing-related tasks.
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations, counters, floors and glassware.
  • Dispose of samples and waste safely per procedures.
  • Monitor, label, store supplies; notify when inventory is low.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Handle gas cylinders safely and perform pH/turbidity checks.
  • Use LIMS for daily tasks and maintain logbooks.
  • Follow safety, QA requirements and Onterris programs.

Job Description

A Day in the Life As a Full-Time Laboratory Assistant based in our Orange, CA Laboratory, you'll step into the lab where every detail matters. You'll play a key role in supporting the Metals Department by assisting with disposal, cleaning glassware, handling samples, maintaining equipment, and maintaining a clean laboratory to support on-time results everyday. You'll collaborate with a strong team of committed professionals, contribute to meaningful scientific work, and grow your expertise in a dynamic, quality-driven environment.

The compensation range for this role is $17.25 to $20 per hour, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.

Schedule: Full-Time. Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities
  • Pick up, check in/out, retrieve, return, and organize samples
  • assist with sample weighing
  • Maintain clean and organized workstations, counters, floors, and glassware
  • Dispose of samples, instrument waste, and satellite waste safely
  • Monitor, receive, label, and store supplies; notify when inventory is low
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration (hot blocks, pipettes, balances, pH/turbidity meters, etc.)
  • Handle and replace gas cylinders safely
  • Perform pH and turbidity checks
  • Handling the pre-treatment and accurately weigh samples for laboratory analysis
  • Use LIMS for daily tasks and maintain logbooks
  • Follow all safety, PPE, and QA requirements
  • Stay current with required QA
  • Communicate and coordinate with QA, Safety members, Sample Receiving, and Group Leader
  • Comply with Onterris Quality Assurance Program and other policies
  • Comply with Onterris Health and Safety Plan
  • Other duties as assigned by the Group Leader, Operations Manager, or Lab Director
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety practices
  • Strong communication and teamwork
Preferred Skills
  • Prior laboratory, sample-handling, or wet chemistry experience
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively under supervision in a team-based environment
  • Willingness to learn laboratory procedures and workflows
