A leading university seeks a laboratory technician to manage clinical specimens and support various lab sections. Responsibilities include specimen processing, glass washing, and customer service. Ideal candidates will have experience in laboratory settings, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Under general supervision, receives clinical specimens from clients and performs specimen processing/receiving for testing by reconciling, coordinating, managing, and executing the receipt of samples. Assists various lab sections by providing glass washing and sterilization services, prepares clinical specimens and media for routine shipments, biohazardous disposal, and chem-waste management. Provides telephone customer service, assistance in animal care and restraint, as well as inventory and proper storage of biological media/reagents.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience working in flexible conditions, handling high volume of work with attention to detail and accuracy. Knowledge of diagnostic procedures used in veterinary diagnostic laboratories, veterinary & medical terminology. Skills to learn sample preparation for microbiologic, immunologic, histologic, and clinical chemistry tests. Ability to operate balances, glassware, pH meters, centrifuges, sterilizing ovens, glass washers, autoclaves. Ability to work with blood, tissues, and potentially infectious materials. Computer skills for data entry. Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to learn UC purchasing policies, sample tracking software, workload reporting tools.
