Job summary

Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, IN, is seeking a PRN Lab Assistant II for days to support the M-Pathology Lab. The role includes specimen collection, pre-analytic processing, and assisting with waived and moderate complexity testing.

You will also perform related clerical tasks, handle registration and delivery of specimens, and maintain accurate records. A phlebotomy training background and solid computer skills are valued assets for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Requires HS grad or GED.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience with waived or moderate complexity testing preferred.
• Must have basic computer skills and telephone etiquette.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide general laboratory services including specimen collection and processing.
• Prepare blood components and assist with testing as required.
• Handle patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens.
• Perform waived testing and some moderate complexity testing.
• Complete related clerical tasks and ensure accurate documentation.

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.
Shift: PRN, Days (1-2 shifts per pay period required)
Location: IUHMG M-Pathology Lab (Indianapolis, IN)
The Lab Assistant II at LAB provides general laboratory services including specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens, waived testing and identified moderate complexity testing as well as related clerical tasks. The incumbent may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens.

• Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent.
• Requires successfully completion of an initial and six (6) month competency for identified testing.
• Requires successfully completion an annual competency assessment for identified testing.
• Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
• Experience in waived or moderate complexity is preferred.
• Requires working knowledge of computers.
• Requires telephone skills.
• Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
• May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the overall purpose and essential functions of the department.
