Job summary

AtlantiCare Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support collection, handling and preparation of specimens, including labeling and transport, in a hospital setting.

This role may involve blood collection, and requires a High School Diploma with Biology preferred for histology/cytology. ASCP/Phlebotomy certification or registry eligibility is preferred, with BLS within 6 months of hire and ongoing CEUs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; biology degree strongly preferred for histology/cytology.
• ASCP/phlebotomy certification or registry eligible preferred; substitution possible for phlebotomy experience.
• BLS required within 6 months of hire; ongoing CEUs for phlebotomists.
• Knowledge of medical terminology; familiarity with laboratory information systems after training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with collection, handling and preparation of specimens.
• Verify and label specimens; transport specimens as needed.
• Prepare slides and maintain supplies for the laboratory.
• May collect blood according to established procedures.
• Support quality patient care and teamwork within the lab.
