Description

The Neuroimmunology Research Lab within the UCSF Department of Medicine is offering an entry-level research assistant position. Our laboratory has pioneered the study of murine microglia and macrophages in neurodegenerative diseases, such as traumatic brain injury and neurological lupus.

Ongoing projects focus on the role of macrophages and inflammatory genes in traumatic brain injury and experimental lupus models.

The successful applicant will assist senior lab staff with murine-based studies involving techniques such as animal behavior experiments, sequencing library preparation, animal colony maintenance, cell culture, and cytokine assays.

Essential Functions
  • Assist principal investigator (PI) and senior staff with routine laboratory upkeep.
  • Assist with sequencing library generation.
  • Help with transgenic mouse breeding and PCR genotyping.
  • Support routine cell culture and animal behavior experiments.
  • Assist with cytokine assays.
  • Maintain data, experiment records, and protocols.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or undergraduate status in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, or immunology.
  • Experience with cell culture methods and animal handling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and assist in training junior staff.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Computer literacy, especially in Windows Excel and GraphPad Prism for data analysis and graphing.
Working Conditions/Environment

The work environment is a biomedical research laboratory, which may include noise and temperature variations. The role may require standing, sitting for extended periods, and computer use.

The salary range is $18.67-$21.42 per hour, with actual offer based on experience, location, and other factors. Additional compensation such as bonuses may be available.
