Job description

The Neuroimmunology Research Lab within the UCSF Department of Medicine is offering an entry-level research assistant position. This opportunity is intended for someone interested in gaining laboratory experience.

About the Laboratory

Our laboratory has pioneered the study of murine microglia and macrophages in neurodegenerative diseases, such as traumatic brain injury and neurological lupus.

Ongoing projects focus on the role of macrophages and inflammatory genes in traumatic brain injury and experimental lupus models.

Responsibilities

1. Assist principal investigators and senior staff with studies involving techniques such as animal behavior experiments, sequencing library preparation, animal colony maintenance, cell culture, and cytokine assays.
2. Maintain data and experiment records and protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or undergraduate coursework in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, or immunology.
• Experience with cell culture methods and animal handling.
• Ability to work collaboratively and assist in training junior staff.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Computer literacy, especially with Windows Excel and GraphPad Prism for data analysis and visualization.

Working Conditions

The work environment is a biomedical research laboratory, which may include noise and temperature variations. The role may require prolonged standing, sitting, and computer use.

Compensation

The hourly salary range is $18.67 to $21.42, with actual offers based on experience, location, and other factors. Additional compensation such as bonuses may be available.
