Job summary

Southcoast Health System, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Assistant-Histology for the Day shift at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

The role involves pre-analytical tasks, specimen handling, and basic histology support from 7:30am to 4:00pm, 40 hours per week. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, phlebotomy or medical assistant certification preferred, and knowledge of medical terminology.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency required.
• Certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Up to 1 year experience.
• Combination of education and experience as a microbiology specimen processor/lab assistant accepted.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 or approved exemption with signed statement.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic pre-analytical technical and clerical duties: specimen receipt, integrity checks, processing, waste disposal, staining, and instrument cleaning.
• Assist with set up for fresh frozen section reagents and related tasks under supervision.

We are searching for a talented Laboratory Assistant-Histology

Hours: 40hrs

Shift: Day shift, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Location: St. Luke's Hospital - New Bedford, MA

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the department Clinical Specialist and Pathologists and in coordination with Medical and Administrative Director and Laboratory Managers, perform basic pre-analytical technical and clerical duties including but not limited to: specimen receipt, specimen integrity acceptability, specimen processing, assist with basic hazardous chemical waste disposal, stain filtration and set up for fresh froze section reagents, and cleaning of instruments.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of High School or equivalency required.
• Certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Up to and including one year experience.
• Combination of education and experience as a microbiology specimen processor/lab assistant equivalent for at least 6 months accepted.
• Certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant preferred.
• Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal Influenza and the COVID 19 virus or to be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired

Compensation: Pay rate will be determined based on level of experience.

Pay Range

USD $21.94 - USD $28.82 /Hr.
