Job description

Position Title: Laboratory Assistant Float

This position will float to multiple locations.

Department: Laboratory
Qualifications:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of computer navigation and experience with Microsoft Office products (Word and Outlook) or comparable applications.
  • Typing or keyboarding skills.
  • Promote teamwork through demonstration of a courteous and cooperative attitude to all customers.
Preferred:
  • Six months of related medical training, medical terminology, or related experience.
  • Previous phlebotomy experience.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods. Must possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Manual dexterity required. Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently. Some lifting may be required.

Position Purpose:

This individual serves all (internal and external) customers by performing laboratory procedures and support functions in accordance with HealthPartners philosophy, policies, procedures, and all regulatory agencies.

Accountabilities:
  1. Collect and process biological specimens following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  2. Perform testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP, including areas such as Phlebotomy, computer operation, EKG, reception, telephones, clerical, and designated testing procedures.
  3. Document and communicate lab test results accurately and thoroughly according to SOP.
  4. Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
  5. Demonstrate competency and comply with all regulatory agency policies.
  6. Implement and adhere to laboratory customer service standards, including maintaining confidentiality, promoting teamwork, and effective communication and conflict resolution.
  7. Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs, and department/clinic changes.
  8. Participate in continuing education, special projects, and community or professional organizations to demonstrate professional and personal development.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
