Job summary

ICON San Antonio is seeking a Part Time Laboratory Assistant in San Antonio, TX. Work approximately 20 hours per week with weekday coverage and some weekend shifts in a fast-paced clinical research lab.

You will handle, track, store, and distribute specimens, ensuring sample integrity and accurate documentation throughout testing. Strong organization and detail-orientation are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 0-2 years' laboratory or related experience is preferred.
• Pipetting experience is preferred.
• Experience with laboratory information systems and specimen tracking preferred.
• Laboratory/healthcare/phlebotomy experience is preferred.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organization.

Schedule/Shift

Approximately 20 hours/week spread across weekdays with some weekend coverage needed as well. Shift coverage needed for evenings, nights, and weekends/ mornings.

What you will do

You will support a fast-paced clinical research laboratory by handling, tracking, storing, and distributing biological specimens. This role is critical to maintaining sample integrity and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the testing process. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Receive, organize, and distribute laboratory specimens
• Prepare and manage samples for testing and analysis
• Retrieve specimens for add-on testing and laboratory requests
• Maintain sample storage, inventory, rotation, and disposal processes
• Transfer specimens to and from long-term storage
• Monitor specimen tracking and pending reports
• Maintain accurate documentation and inventory logs
• Follow all laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Your Profile

Required qualifications and experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory or related environment, with a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Basic familiarity with lab equipment and techniques
• Pipetting experience preferred
• Experience with laboratory information systems and specimen tracking preferred
• Lab, healthcare, specimen processing, and phlebotomy experience is preferred
• Basic computer and documentation skills
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
