ICON is seeking a Lab Assistant in San Antonio, TX to support a fast-paced clinical research lab. The role involves handling, organizing, and distributing biological specimens, with responsibility for sample integrity and accurate documentation.

Flexibility to work ~20 hours per week in a 6am–3pm window is needed. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and some lab experience; PLC familiarity, phlebotomy exposure, and strong attention to detail are highly valued.

• 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory or related environment; willingness to learn.
• Basic familiarity with lab equipment and techniques.
• Lab, healthcare, specimen processing, and phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Experience with laboratory information systems and specimen tracking preferred.
• Pipetting experience preferred.

Schedule/Shift

Approximately 20 hours/week spread across weekdays with some weekend coverage needed as well. You can be scheduled to work within the hours of 6 AM-3 PM.

What you will do

You will support a fast-paced clinical research laboratory by handling, tracking, storing, and distributing biological specimens. This role is critical to maintaining sample integrity and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the testing process. Success in this position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment.

Key responsibilities include

• Receive, organize, and distribute laboratory specimens
• Prepare and manage samples for testing and analysis
• Retrieve specimens for add-on testing and laboratory requests
• Maintain sample storage, inventory, rotation, and disposal processes
• Transfer specimens to and from long-term storage
• Monitor specimen tracking and pending reports
• Maintain accurate documentation and inventory logs
• Follow all laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Your profile

Required qualifications and experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory or related environment, with a strong willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Basic familiarity with lab equipment and techniques
• Lab, healthcare, specimen processing, and phlebotomy experience is preferred
