St. Luke's Health System in Boise is seeking an experienced Lab Assistant to join the Anatomic Cytology Services team in a full-time Lab Assistant 3 role. The position handles pre-analytical processing of specimens and may assist with procurement and preparation for testing.

You will mentor team members, transcribe orders, ensure proper labeling and handling, and support POCT where applicable; strong accuracy and patient communication are valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of lab or related experience preferred.
  • No licenses or certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Transcribe laboratory testing orders accurately.
  • Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
  • Perform advanced specimen processing and route specimens to testing areas.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specimen collection across age groups and health conditions.
  • Perform POCT where applicable.
  • Explain collection procedures to patients and reduce anxiety.
  • May mentor other team members on advanced tasks.
  • Maintain PPE compliance and a safe, clean work environment.
  • Register patients or provide courier services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

St. Luke's Health System has an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Lab Assistant to join our Boise Anatomic Cytology Services team in a full-time Lab Assistant 3 position! The Lab Assistant 3 is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens AND/OR for the procurement and preparation of laboratory specimens for testing. Performs tasks and tests under limited supervision and acts as a mentor to all team members.

What You Can Expect:

  • Transcribe laboratory testing orders in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ensure specimens are properly identified, labeled, collected, and stored.
  • Advanced specimen processing. - Distribute or track specimens to the appropriate areas of the laboratory for testing.
  • Advanced knowledge of specimen collections from individuals of varying ages, diverse physical and mental disabilities, and health conditions.
  • Proficient in performing Point of Care Testing (POCT), if applicable to the site.
  • Explain collection procedures and provide patient instructions to ensure the accurate collection or preparation of specimens, to facilitate patient/caregiver understanding, and to reduce patient anxiety. Handle moderate patient complications and address basic patient concerns.
  • May act as a resource for other team members on advanced tasks, complex questions, and/or patient concerns.
  • Complies with established personal protective equipment requirements necessary for protection against exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment
  • May register patients or provide courier services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 2 years experience.
