Job summary

Dignity Health - St. Bernardine Medical Center in San Bernardino, CA, is seeking a Lab Assistant to collect, prepare, and process specimens for diagnostic tests. This role requires a solid foundation in laboratory procedures and a commitment to continuous learning.

You will support patient care across ages, assist with ER scheduling, and ensure accurate data entry and regulatory compliance while maintaining equipment and reagents per protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum of six (6) months as a laboratory phlebotomist is required.
• California Certification in Phlebotomy (Department of Public Health) is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide age-appropriate care for patients as assigned.
• Play a critical role in the Emergency Room schedule.
• Assist with specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, and aliquoting.
• Prepare reagents and solutions per established protocols.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies for cleanliness and function.
• Perform routine lab tasks: wash glassware, sterilize instruments, prepare culture media.
• Assist with data entry and record-keeping with accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Support the laboratory supervisor with additional tasks as needed.
• Work in the Emergency Room as required.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day, you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Responsibilities:

• The lab assistant must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care relative to the patient's age-specific needs.
• This lab assistant will play a critical role in the Emergency Room schedule
• Assist with specimen processing, including labeling, centrifuging, and aliquoting.
• Prepare reagents and solutions according to established protocols.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies to ensure cleanliness and proper functioning.
• Perform routine lab tasks such as washing glassware, sterilizing instruments, and preparing culture media.
• Assist with data entry and record-keeping, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Assist with other tasks as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
• Will be required to work in the Emergency Room

This position is represented by SEIU-UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Job Requirements
