Job summary

CorePlus is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in Ponce, Puerto Rico to support hematology, chemistry, immunology and coagulation workflows. The role processes specimens, accessioning in the LIMS, and ensures quality control and safety.

You will work under minimal supervision, maintain inventory, ship samples when needed, operate instruments and follow established SOPs to support accurate clinical analyses.

Qualifications

• High school graduate; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Team-oriented with professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession and label clinical specimens in the LIMS.
• Verify specimen acceptability (volume, tube type, hemolysis).
• Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories, following temperature control requirements.
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
• Perform routine preventive or corrective maintenance.
• Maintain an adequately stocked inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Report patient safety issues and specimen deficiencies.
• Review and upkeep QC and maintenance logs.

The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant receives, processes and prepares all clinical specimens for the laboratory’s Hematology, Chemistry, Immunology and Coagulation departments. The Assistant must be prepared to accession cases for internal and external (B2B) clients, know all procedures involved in specimen processing and reference laboratory shipments, and document pertinent quality control, inventory and credentialing information for the area.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession and label clinical specimens into the Laboratory Information System (SAIL).
• Verify specimen acceptability (volume, tube type, hemolysis).
• Package and ship specimens to reference laboratories, following each laboratory’s temperature control and handling requirements.
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Perform routine preventive or corrective maintenance.
• Maintain an adequately stocked inventory of laboratory supplies.
• Maintain area well-stocked and request necessary laboratory supplies.
• Report patient safety issues and specimen deficiencies.
• Review and upkeep QC and maintenance logs
• Store and dispose of hazardous wastes using safety procedures.
• Implement the SOP protocols daily.
• Always wear personal protective equipment.
• Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner with minimal supervision.

Requirements and Skills

• High school graduate; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred
