Job summary

Backus Hospital, part of Hartford HealthCare, seeks a Lab Assistant to support preanalytic processing and accessioning, and to prepare specimens for reference laboratories under supervision. The role involves handling accessioning/registration tasks and contributing to safe, accurate lab operations.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent and 1 year of laboratory or related experience, or equivalent training.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience in a laboratory, medical or related setting OR training that supports minimum duties.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal, written and listening) skills and good leadership abilities.
• Ability to comply with OSHA and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe lab environment and meet accreditation standards.
• Flexibility to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Support functions in the lab under Supervisor direction.

Location Detail: Backus Hospital (10309)

Shift Detail: Rotation between clinical and pathology lab. Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the lab assistant is responsible for support functions, preanalytical processing, preparing specimens to send to appropriate reference laboratories and accessioning/ registration functions.

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• 1 year of experience in a laboratory, medical or other related setting OR any experience or training that supports minimum training for the duties above.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal, written and listening) skills and good leadership abilities.
• Ability to comply with OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
• Ability to be flexible as required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.
