Apex Skin in Northeast Ohio is seeking a detail‑oriented Laboratory Assistant to support the daily operations of our clinical laboratory. This full‑time, hourly role involves processing specimens, preparing samples for analysis, and assisting senior staff to ensure accurate results and compliant workflows.

You will calibrate and maintain instruments, record data with precision, stock supplies, and uphold CAP/CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA standards.

Position Overview

Apex Skin is a physician-led and rapidly growing dermatology practice committed to delivering exceptional patient experiences. We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Laboratory Assistant to support the daily operations of our laboratory. This role assists with routine laboratory testing, specimen handling, equipment maintenance, and documentation while ensuring a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.

The Laboratory Assistant plays a key role in supporting clinical and research activities by maintaining accuracy, following established protocols, and contributing to efficient laboratory workflows. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Compensation Range
  • $18.00 - $20.00/hr
  • Based on relevant years of experience
Schedule
  • Full-time, hourly position
  • Typically scheduled for 8-hour shifts
  • Early start times required; most shifts begin around 6:00 AM or earlier
  • Schedule may vary based on operational needs
Essential Functions
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment by adhering to laboratory protocols and safety standards.
  • Prepare samples for analysis by labeling, sorting, and conducting initial processing.
  • Assist in the collection, preparation, and storage of specimens.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and procedures under the supervision of senior laboratory staff.
  • Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Record and manage data accurately and efficiently, ensuring confidentiality and integrity.
  • Order, stock, and manage laboratory supplies to ensure the availability of necessary materials.
  • Follow standard operating procedures for laboratory processes and handle chemicals properly.
  • Provide administrative support by completing necessary paperwork and filing documents.
  • Assist in the implementation of laboratory techniques and protocols.
  • Support senior laboratory staff in research, development, and quality control tasks.
  • Communicate findings and observations to the laboratory manager or senior staff members.
  • Manage the storage and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Participate in laboratory meetings and contribute to team initiatives.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to other team members as needed.
  • Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in a scientific field preferred
  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard laboratory equipment
  • Basic understanding of laboratory safety protocols and procedures
  • Familiarity with data recording and sample tracking systems
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accurate records
  • Excellent manual dexterity for handling small or delicate samples
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work different shifts or overtime as needed
  • Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality control
  • Willingness to undergo training and adapt to new procedures or protocols as required
Physical Requirements & Environmental Working Conditions & Safety
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting in a laboratory setting
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for handling specimens, operating laboratory equipment, and performing detailed tasks
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read labels, laboratory documentation, computer screens, and measurement instruments
  • Ability to speak and hear clearly when communicating with laboratory staff and leadership
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 25 pounds (supplies, equipment, or specimens)
  • Requires manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling small or delicate samples
  • Work is performed primarily in a laboratory environment
  • Exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, toxic substances, and sharp instruments
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
  • Must adhere to CAP, CLIA, state regulations, HIPAA, OSHA, and Apex Skin safety standards
  • Required to sign the Hazard Communication Form (F GL.001)
