Laboratory Assistant Job Description

The Laboratory Assistant prepares lab specimens for analysis and performs various clerical tasks, including maintaining and organizing lab equipment, supplies, and samples. This role involves conducting moderate complexity testing as designated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). The Laboratory Assistant contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory, ensuring the timely delivery of test results and maintaining high-quality service for patient care and diagnosis.

1. Specimen Processing: Reviews received specimens, verifies patient labeling and identification, assesses specimen acceptability, and processes samples according to test requirements to ensure data integrity and accurate results.
2. Laboratory Operations: Manages clinical functions such as phone management, report handling, and the filing/storing of slides and specimens to support smooth laboratory workflow.
3. Testing Procedures: Performs moderate complexity testing as per CLIA guidelines, accurately executing testing procedures and evaluating results.
4. Quality Control: Adheres to quality control protocols, including equipment start-up, routine maintenance, and documentation, to guarantee testing accuracy and reliability.
5. Compliance and Safety: Follows laboratory protocols and regulatory standards to ensure safety and compliance.
6. Customer Service: Addresses customer inquiries, resolves concerns, and provides follow-up to ensure patient satisfaction and maintain service excellence.
7. Additional Duties: Performs other assigned duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience: At least 6 months of experience in a medical or laboratory environment
