We are currently seeking aLab Assistant to join the Laboratory Operations team. As our Lab Assistant you will play a key role in performing laboratory procedures that require some degree of technical scientific knowledge and experience which duties are directed by the Technical Manager.
Perform routine maintenance in Core lab and molecular laboratory instruments. Assist with editing document's for lab operations when needed. Inventory monitoring and basic workflow coordination duties (previously distributed among bench staff).
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive, sort, open, and process incoming specimens from various sources, ensuring accuracy and proper handling. Document all received specimens in the case receipt log.
- Perform accessioning duties, including data entry into LIS and/or send out system. Verify insurance eligibility, and communicate with clients when patient requisition information is incomplete or unclear to ensure data accuracy and quality standards are met.
- Perform sample preparation tasks, including classifying and labeling samples, aliquoting/pouring samples and loading them into different instruments. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety and quality standards. Responsibilities may also include nucleic acid extraction and PCR setup.
- Maintain and adhere to confidential (HIPAA) requirements.
- Participate in required competency training programs and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain clean and organized work area, perform equipment sterilization, and proper storage of confirmed samples.
- Perform administrative duties as assigned, including data entry (e.g., correction lists), scanning, filing, and printing test results and requisitions.
- Monitor reagent inventory levels, track expiration dates, and notify appropriate personnel for reordering as needed.
- Perform quality control (QC) tasks, including reagent and calibrator aliquoting, and follow established protocols for proper disposal procedures.
- Assist in manufacturing media for testing.
- Conduct sample management and quality control tasks, including verifying that all required testing is completed prior to sample disposal, disposing of materials/items per schedule, ensuring critical results are managed timely, and preparing samples for send-outs, while ensuring accuracy of accompanying documentation and proper specimen handling.
- Monitor inventory and support workflow coordination activities as needed.
- Answer phones, and call clients to obtain necessary information required for test processing, as assigned.
- Assist with internal laboratory documentation and operational processes as needed.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of one (1) year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field preferred.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, medical terminology, and specimen handling.
- Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting preferred.
- Experience with scientific research methodologies is preferred.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Proficiency in operating basic laboratory equipment, including centrifuges, microscopes, and pipettes.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to quickly learn and use Laboratory Information System software
- Accurate handling, labeling, and processing of blood and urine specimens

SCHEDULE
- 40 hour per week from Monday to Sunday – specific hours will be determined upon discussion with the candidates.
- Disclaimer: Most laboratory and phlebotomy positions may require working in the weekends on a rotating schedule.

Open Healthcare US offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The reasonable estimated salary for this role ranges from $21.00 to $24.00 per hour. Actual compensation is based upon factors such as the candidate's education, skills, qualifications, and related work experience.
