Company Overview : Uncaged Innovations is a biomaterials start-up leveraging biotechnology and nature to recreate bovine and exotic leather. Demand for animal alternatives is rapidly growing across industries—from fashion to automotive—in search of more sustainable and ethical solutions.

Position Overview : The Laboratory Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by assisting with various tasks and ensuring the smooth functioning of experiments and research activities. This position involves a combination of hands-on laboratory work, data management, and collaboration with the research team. This position starts as a part-time contract role but can evolve into a full-time position.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members to achieve research objectives.
• Prepare and set up laboratory equipment and instruments for experiments.
• Keep the laboratory workspace clean and organized.
• Perform daily support tasks, such as making samples, cutting swatches and shipping samples.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
• Assist in the ordering and restocking of laboratory supplies.
• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Perform tasks around the facility including washing labware, disposing of laboratory waste in accordance with established procedures, and cleaning as needed.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and laboratory regulations.
• Design, carry out, and document research experiments
• Assist team in applying for certifications and grants
• Perform technical testing of material to ensure product performance
• Evaluate and analyze competitive products and report results
• Support team with manufacturing and production scale-up activities
• Manage time independently, ensure proper documentation in laboratory notebook, and comply with all safety and quality standards

Required Skills / Abilities and Physical Requirements :

• Must be very responsible and reliable.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Good organizational and multitasking skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity for handling laboratory equipment.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Education and Experience :

• Associate's degree or above in a related field is required.
• Previous laboratory experience or coursework is desirable.
• Although not required, basic mechanical skills would be a bonus.

Terms of Employment : Part-time or contract, with the possibility of expanding to full-time

Compensation : $20-25 / hour
