The Jimenez Lab in the Biology Department is seeking a full-time Laboratory Assistant who will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and support projects with lab tasks.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining and lab inventories (plasmids, antibodies, zebrafish/mouse lines), and equipment logs.
  • Assist and monitor and maintain lab reagents, freezers, refrigerators, incubators, and genetic analyzers.
  • Call to Coordinate service calls, equipment calibrations, contracts, and related documentation.
  • Ensure lab cleanliness, chemical storage, and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Communicate with facilities for building maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitor animal housing (zebrafish), maintain logbooks, and support feeding and tank cleaning.
  • Work with the PI on with documents
  • Maintain lab website and coordinate lab meetings.
  • Assist PI in monitoring undergraduate students in lab
  • Attend and present at lab meetings.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Familiar with windows-based word processing, internet, and spreadsheet.
  • Ability to work as a team member, and under direct supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow protocols, policies and procedures and respond appropriately when presented with novel situations.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Minimum Qualifications

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
