Job summary

Inotiv, a leading CRO, seeks a skilled technician to support animal studies in a rigorous lab setting. The role involves dosing, data collection, and health assessments in rats and mice, with emphasis on accuracy and safety.

You will assist with blood collection, sample processing, and behavioral testing, while maintaining documentation and complying with safety rules. The position offers growth within a dynamic team at Inotiv.

Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. in science with 2+ years direct laboratory animal work experience, or an associate degree with 4+ years, or 8+ years without a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Administer doses of compounds to rats and mice via oral, IV, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal routes.
  • Perform data collections including weighing, observations, health assessments, and disease scoring.
  • Collect blood from rodents via tail vein, retro-orbital, and terminal draws.
  • Process whole blood for plasma/serum by centrifugation.
  • Conduct behavioral testing such as gait analysis and Von Frey methods.
  • Assist in formulating experimental compounds for administration and rodent surgeries.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and elevate study concerns to supervisors.
  • Review data for accuracy and maintain study records and inventories.
  • Maintain clean, stocked laboratory spaces and operate Windows-based software.

Job description

Job Summary

This position will assist in accurately and efficiently conducting animal studies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Administer doses of compounds to rats and mice via common dosing routes, including but not limited to oral, intravenous, subcutaneous, and intraperitoneal.
  • Perform data collections, including weighing, clinical observations, health assessments, post operative monitoring, and disease progression scoring.
  • Perform blood collections from rats and mice via tail vein, retro-orbital, and terminal blood draws.
  • Processing whole blood collection via centrifugation for plasma and/or serum.
  • Perform behavioral testing (Gait analysis, Von Frey, and Dynamic Weight Bearing testing, etc.)
  • Assist in formulating experimental compounds for administration.
  • Assist in rodent surgeries
  • Independently troubleshoot technical issues and elevate study concerns to supervisors or investigators as appropriate.
  • Take ownership of assigned study components, ensuring timelines and data quality are upheld.
  • Review and verify data from junior staff for accuracy and completeness.
  • Supports and participates in other duties and company initiatives as directed by management.
  • Keep laboratory clean and stocked with supplies.
  • Various software applications sustained by a Windows platform. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Use of general laboratory equipment, including but not limited to balances, syringes and needles, blood collection tubes, centrifuges, pipettes, formalin collection jars, liquid nitrogen, -80 freezers, incubators, fluid/syringe pumps, chemical and clean hoods, PPE (lab coat, gloves, face mask or respirator, shoe covers, hair nets, eye protection), quarantine/isolation rooms, autoclaves, and necropsy hand tools.

Education & Experience

B.S./B.A. in science (biology or equivalent) with 2+ year direct laboratory animal work experience, or Associate degree with 4+ years direct laboratory animal work experience, or 8+ years of direct laboratory animal work experience without a college science degree, or equivalent combination of related education and required work experience will be considered with management approval. Preferred animal laboratory research experience with mice and rats, including dosing, in-life sample collections, and necropsy collections.

Position Details

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range is $24-$32/hr and will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level. Salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities. This role is not-benefit eligible.
