Job summary

The State of Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Laboratory Services, is seeking a Centralized Accessioning Supervisor based in the Nashville Central Laboratory. This role leads accessioning staff, coordinates couriers, and ensures specimen intake integrity within a high-volume environment.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field with substantial laboratory experience and supervisory responsibilities, plus strong knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field with two years of full-time laboratory experience and supervisory/managerial experience.
• Alternatively, completion of an accredited four-year medical laboratory scientist program with two years of full-time laboratory experience and supervisory/managerial experience.
• Alternatively, meet CLIA Testing Personnel Qualification Category per 42 CFR 493.1489 with two years of full-time laboratory experience and supervisory/managerial experience.
• A transcript must be uploaded with the application; substitutions allowed up to two years of related coursework or post-baccalaureate training.
• Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license; TN Medical Laboratory Supervisor/Director licensure eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the centralized accessioning unit, including courier coordination, specimen receipt, handling, inspection, and internal routing.
• Supervise unit staff, assign work, supervise training, evaluate performance, coordinate schedules, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
• Ensure accurate entry of specimen information into the LIMS, oversee chain-of-custody documentation, and coordinate with the Informatics section to resolve system issues.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (CLIA, EPA) and accreditation standards (CAP, ISO 17025, A2LA) through current procedures and audits.
• Serve as primary contact for specimen intake issues and administrative functions, including budgeting, contract management, and grant-related activities.
• This class provides routine laboratory consultant work of considerable difficulty and larger scope.
